8 Items You Should Buy at Thrift Stores

Shopping at thrift stores is the new trend in people who are trying to save money and live a minimalistic life. Millennials are beginning to realize that shopping at a high-end retails store is not glamourous anymore. They charge you more and the same quality items can be bought from other more affordable stores like the Salvation Army and Goodwill. In this post, I have shared a list of items you should buy at thrift stores to make a truckload of savings this year.

Here are the 8 items you should buy at thrift stores.

1. Furniture

You already might be aware of how expensive furniture is. Particularly in stores like Ikea and Home Depot. Furniture is one thing that can be used and reused by many people. Goodwill store has some bargain-priced used furniture for your living room.

2. Books

This is another item that you should buy at thrift stores. Thrift stores have some excellent collection of books that you won’t find elsewhere. These books are donated by people. So, you are more likely to find special editions of rare books here.

3. Branded clothes

Branded clothes

As I already discussed in the introduction of this post, shopping at high-end retail stores is not glamourous anymore. Although, the branded clothes are always high quality and trendy. You can get some really good deals if you dig in and look around for a few minutes. You can wear these used clothes while traveling as they can be easily disposed of.

4. Vinyl records

For oldsters who still like to listen to vinyl records, thrift shops can be a great place to buy records at rock-bottom prices. Do not buy vinyl records online; online stores make a ton of profit by selling them for high prices as these records are a vintage utility now.

5. Bicycles

If you live in a city, a bicycle can come handy at any time. Some cities also have a separate lane for cyclists. A bicycle is an item you should buy at the thrift stores as they have sale-priced bicycles donated by someone who doesn’t need it. Moreover, you are also contributing to nature by not using a fuel-free mode of transport.

6. Halloween costumes

I read a post on ThoughtCatalog saying how it’s possible to buy new Holloween costumes in thrift stores and they look even more original than the costumes you see on Halloween costume pop-up shops. You can also buy them in bulk and gift them to your friends and family members.

7. Electronics

Most of us do not bother to repair electronic items if they happen to stop working. We live a throw-away culture that doesn’t like to waste time on repairing or maintaining things like electronics.  So, why not save hundreds of dollars on electronics by buying them for cheap from a thrift store. They also let you try out the items before you buy them.

8. Tools

This is another item that you should buy at a thrift store. Tools are very essential in a home as you never know when you will need them. It’s not always possible to call the maintenance guy for petty repairs. So, get yourself a box of tools and learn to fix your own plumbing problems.

A thrift store is a non-profit establishment and most of the money generated goes to things like charity and to support various environmental causes. You are not being cheap by doing your shopping from a thrift store. You get to save money and also do something noble for someone in need.
