Weekly Roundup (13th Edition)

Happy Saturday, frugal people!

OK, I’ve never done this before on our weekly roundup, but here’s a bit of shameless self-promotion. Please check out my site Prudence Debtfree. In my post “Business Debt ELIMINIATED! Debt-Free Except for the Mortgage” I reflect upon the journey out of debt that my husband and I have been on for 3 years now, and the significance of the HUGE milestone we reached this week : )

I missed this gem of Melanie’s at Dear Debt when she wrote it in May, but I’m glad I read it this week. In “My Big, Crazy, Audacious Goal”, she proclaims her bold mission to become debt-free in a year. In her most recent post, “The Beginning of a Journey”, she provides a progress report for month #1. She’s on track! Melanie has been working her way out of debt for many years, and her resolve to close in for the finish line has a contagious effect. Read it and get psyched!

Anyone who is working on financial fitness knows it’s not all milestones and finish lines. As Tonya shows in her most recent post at Budget and the Beach, “The Ebbs and Flows of My Financial Life”, there are downs as well as ups – all along the way.

I really don’t know if I’m allowed to do this in a roundup, but Laurie wrote a great post for Fruclassity on the same theme. “How to Deal With Debt Fatigue” gives honest and effective strategies to deal with onset of burnout for those of us who are paying off debt. I’ve been there, and no doubt, I will be again. Next time, I’ll know how to deal with it.

Kathy at the Barefoot Minimalist  has responded to reader interest and is showing photos of her minimalist house. A scroll through her last 3 posts gives a peek at her very sparsely furnished rooms. I think there will be more to come too. I look at those photos and think, “How do they do it?” and “That must be really easy to clean.” Then I look at the rooms in my house and get inspired to do something about our lingering clutter.

Whether you’re struggling with your finances at this time or you’re hitting your stride, you’re not alone. There’s a whole community here to share understanding, offer advice, cheer you on, and inspire you. Enjoy these reads, and have a great weekend!

  1. Hey, that was fun! I love all of your suggestions, and I think it’s perfectly perfect doing some “shameless self-promotion”. Ain’t that the best kind? 😛

I certainly wouldn’t have imagined being included because of my lack of stuff, but hey, I’ll take it! Thanks ladies! 🙂

    1. Fruclassity Commandment #8 is “Embrace the positive side-effects of simplicity and minimalism that come with frugality.” So your lack of stuff is a beautiful fit : )

    1. Thank you, Melanie : ) Here’s wishing you very well in maintaining your “audacious” debt-repayment pact through month #2!
